Herd Manager Apprentice

Dandelion Hill Farm is seeking an Apprentice to the Herd Manager for our intentional biodynamic goat micro-dairy.  Dandelion Hill Farm raises Nubian dairy goats, Kiko/Boer meat goats, chickens, and a mixed flock of sheep. This a unique opportunity and immersion into organic farming. Apprentices will commit to a schedule during our busy season (March-November) and will be paid a weekly stipend for the hours worked and agreed upon. 

 

Key responsibilities and learnings include:

  • Assisting in herd health management, responding and identifying animal health issues and illnesses

  • Plan, direct, and perform daily chores for farm and help with organizational and processes improvements 

  • Learn and perform all tasks related with a grade certified goat milking parlor

  • Help ensure all aspect of milking parlor and facilities are well maintained, organized and sanitized

  • Pasture herd management, assisting with rotational grazing throughout the summer

General Farm Apprentice 

Come learn about biodynamic farming and become a seasonal farm apprentice. This a unique opportunity and immersion into organic farming. Apprentices will commit to a schedule during our busy season (March-November) and will be paid a weekly stipend for the hours worked and agreed upon. Couples and individuals are welcomed to apply. Educational components of the apprentice will include animal husbandry, helping at summer Farmers Markets', seed starting, bed preparation, direct seeding, transplanting, weeding, watering, mulching, harvesting, washing and pasture rotational management. We are seeking apprentices who are self-directed, able to lift 50 pounds and passionate about learning how to farm.
