Farm Assistant Apprenticeship  

 

Animals, Vegetables and Flowers

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual that has a strong interest to learn all aspects of a small diverse farm. Concentration with the Dairy Goats but willing to work with the other parts of the farm where the help is needed.

Looking for someone that wants to build a partnership with us on the farm. We would like your help implementing new ideas and also seeking individual who is able follow instructions accurately and effectively.

 

Monday and Tuesday Morning Milking Followed by Gardening until Noon.

Thursday and Friday Markets.3-6

Saturday 1x a month.

 

Month of April 1 - May 18 And then help is needed Sept 10- Nov.15.

Some of the work will involve the following but not limited to:

  • Milking goats 2x a day 

  • Bottle milk

  • Cheese making

  • Feed and care for adult and kid goats

  • Cleaning barns

  • Assist with kidding 

  • Set up barns for kidding 

  • Learn hoof trimming and health inspections 

  • Care for chickens 

  • Collect eggs, wash and box

  • Help with vegetable harvest, wash and pack for markets 

  • Weeding, watering and planting 

  • Assist with farmers markets, setting up and breaking down (Thursdays & Fridays)

Start date would be as early as March and our season ends around mid October. We will accept applications until May 31st.  Free housing  and a two week, work trial would be required to insure its a good fit for both of us.  Physically capable to lift 50 lbs.  Working in all types of weather and being able to get up early to start the necessary chores.

 

Housing and Pay

-We have a tiny three season cottage with a kitchenette, refrigerator, full size bed, small heater, outdoor shower and composting toilet.   

-Apprentice will have access to laundry in the main house. We solar dry clothes when weather conditions are suitable.

-An apprentice stipend for part time work.  Vegetables, Milk, Cheese and eggs available from the farm. Any meat would need to be purchased.
