Farm Assistant /Apprenticeship
Animals, Vegetables and Flowers
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual that has a strong interest to learn all aspects of a small diverse farm. Concentration with the Dairy Goats but willing to work with the other parts of the farm where the help is needed.
The job will give opportunity to care for 9 milking Dairy Goat and kids. Learning to milk by hand in addition to using a simple milk machine. In addition to the dairy we need help with gardening vegetables , cut flowers, herbs and fruit trees. Run our booth at local farmer market.
The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic to learn about goat health care, work in adverse weather conditions and be self motivated to work alone. A strong willingness to learn about sustainable organic farming practices and biodynamic principles. Ability to lift 50 pound bags of grain , run small power equipment and handle goats.
Hours
Thursday - Monday
Morning and evening milking (flexible)
starting pay $18 hr.
25 +hours a week
$60/ Farmer Market
Some of the work will involve the following but not limited to:

Milking goats 2x a day
-
Bottle milk
-
Cheese making
-
Feed and care for adult and kid goats

Cleaning barns
-
Assist with kidding
-
Set up barns for kidding
-
Learn hoof trimming and health inspections
-
Help with vegetable harvest, wash and pack for markets
-
Weeding, watering and planting
-
Assist with farmers markets, setting up and breaking down (Thursdays & Fridays)
Desired Dates February - Sept/Oct
We start kidding in end of January into end of February.
